Old Jura Estate Images
There are quite a few resources available online where you can find images of days gone by as well as old postcards. A good example is the post I wrote in January called Jura in the old days. In that post I referred to a website that holds a large gallery of images from people who lived on Jura. Yesterday, when I wrote about Neil King’s Scotland images on the Islay Blog, I found an interesting set of images on his website that contains photographs of estate brochures. These brochures were used to put out to estate agents whenever a large property became available on the market and in it are five images of Jura.
These five images come from the brochure for the sale of The Jura Estates (64,000 acres) when they were auctioned by Messrs Knight Frank & Rutley in 1923. Besides Ardlussa House you can find images of the Tarbert hunting lodge, Lagg and two images of Inverlussa. The image I have included is from Ardlussa lodge. I have also included an image of Ardlussa House from 2008 just to show you that much has remained the same since 1923. The black and white image was taken from the east whereas my image was taken from the north and shows the view from the road.

Some of my Scottish ancestors lived at Ardlussa House in the 17th and 18th centuries before they immigrated to the U. S. Is the present House the same House that existed in that period or is it a new structure? Thanks.
Dear Elizabeth, as far as I know the present house is more or less the same as it was back then.
