The Isle of Jura - how to get here

From Port Askaig Islay to Feolin by car ferry
To get to Jura, the majority of people will require a visit to the neighbouring Isle of Islay, separated from the smaller island by the half mile wide stretch of water known as the Sound of Islay, famous for its strong currents. The ferry between the two islands runs from Port Askaig, on the east coast of Islay, to Feolin, in the south-west corner of Jura. From Port Askaig the Jura ferries runs at approx 30min intervals daily from 7.30am till 6.30pm. Booking is not required, a stop at the local petrol station however is recommended if travelling by car. The costs are around £15 return for car and passengers.

To Islay By Car from Glasgow:
This journey should take about two and a half to three hours, depending on the amount of stops, and is a very scenic drive. Take the A82 from Glasgow towards Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Next take the A83 near Tarbet passing Rest and be Thankful towards the lovely town of Inveraray. Continue on the A83 following the shore line of Loch Fyne towards Lochilphead and finally Kennacraig. The Kennacraig ferry terminal is located only 4 miles outside Tarbert, a picturesque little town and port. The ferry terminal is easily missed but it's clearly signposted.

To Islay By Bus from Glasgow:

The Ferry from Kennacraig to Islay:
Caledonian MacBrayne operate the two hour crossing which runs twice daily throughout the year, once on Sundays, with additional sailings during the summer season. Ferries arrive eather in Port Askaig or Port Ellen depending on the timetable and weather conditions. It's advisable to book ferries in advance, specially in the summer season. By Air from Glasgow to Islay:
British Airways run a 35 minute scheduled service, Monday - Saturday from Glasgow Airport to Islay, in the morning and afternoon. This is the quickest way and can provide spectacular views of the islands and Kintyre. This service is operated by Loganair. From the Isle of Colonsay by passenger ferry
A boat service run by the Lorn Ferry Service is available from the island of Colconsay for passengers only. The service operates between Easter and September and brings the passenger to the east end of Loch Tarbert. From there it's one mile to the closest road. Tickets are £15. The Lorn Ferry Service also operates between Colonsay and Mull and Colonsay and Port Askaig on Islay.

By water taxi from Crinan
